A look behind the scenes: Sound design and challenges at the opening show of the SonneMondSterne Festival 2024

This year, we once again handled the sound design, mixing, and mastering for the opening show of the Angular Stage at the SonneMondSterne festival . Together with Benedikt Groß from LoadIn Design , who was responsible for lighting and stage design, we put on a first-class show.

The challenge: to capture the current sound and awaken emotions

One of the biggest challenges of this project was shaping the sound to reflect current musical tastes while also creating an emotional connection with the audience. It was about creating a consistent sonic palette that not only captures the energy of the evening, but also truly transports the audience into a frenzy. Our goal was to use the sound to create an atmosphere that would excite the audience and elevate the mood on stage to the next level right from the start.

Techniques to excite the audience

To achieve this effect, we deliberately incorporated numerous breaks into the track. These breaks were not only a creative element in the sound design, but also allowed the lighting and video team to deploy their effects precisely and in sync with the musical climaxes. Each drop signaled a visual explosion on stage, making the experience even more intense for the audience.

Variety was another key element. To ensure the sound remained fresh and exciting, I combined different genres—including drum 'n' bass, dubstep, and EDM. This diversity kept the listeners on their toes and ensured the excitement remained consistently high.

The result: euphoria in the audience

The feedback from the audience, DJs, and promoters was overwhelming. The excitement on the audience's faces was clearly visible after every drop, and the cheers spoke for themselves. It was an incredible feeling to be able to witness this moment and know that the sound design process had achieved exactly the intended effect.

outlook

Even though we don't have any plans for next year yet, we're already looking forward to being part of this festival again. It's always fascinating how sound design can evoke emotions and move an entire crowd. We're excited to see what new creative ideas will emerge next year.
